So, do any of you play Mahjong? Occasionally I play on Tenhou against others. What's Mahjong? Well, to be honest you could call it Chinese weeaboo dominoes. It is a very popular tile game in Japan though. It's not too hard when you know the rules. Theres a really great guide for rules on the game here: http://www.mediafire.com/?nundktgdonn
You can also reference the wikipedia page on all the japanese yaku:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Mahjong_yaku
You can practice here against other Japanese people: http://tenhou.net/0/
Don't feel bad if you do terrible at first, it's not like they can say anything bad to you anyway. I actually had a beginner winning streak when I first started and then I was terrible for the longest time.
I actually learned how to play after watching an anime called Saki. If you enjoy cute girls doing cute things and mahjong as well, you'll absolutely love this anime. I didn't know the rules at all when i saw it, but it makes more sense now. An anime definitely worth your time.
I'm not super great, but just tell me if you ever want to play! Only Yakuman I've gotten would be little winds. Might have been able to go for big winds, but whatever!
This week I'll probably do an in depth tutorial on all the moon runes (japanese) in the game and what they mean!
nice. my family plays mahjong almost every weekend.
ReplyDeleteToo lazy to learn.
ReplyDeleteI played on 7447 for a while, and got pretty into it. I never really got very good at it though, and me sucking started to piss people off so I stopped.
ReplyDeleteparents refused to teach me cuz they thought i'd gamble too much :(
ReplyDeleteI've played a lot of single player Mahjong (Mahjong Solitaire, maybe?) but never with other people. Maybe I should give it a whirl.
ReplyDeletePlayed it sometimes, I'm not the best, but it's kinda fun I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI like Mah Jong solitare. I assume that's not the same thing though.
ReplyDeleteI play Mah Jong solitare when I'm really bored, although I have never played the real thing with others...
ReplyDeleteI suck at Mah Jong, don't even get me started...
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know there's a Japanese version! How cool is that. My family used to play that game a lot (the Chinese version, I guess). Nowadays, everyone just pokers. Some of those stones actually are really, really well crafted.
ReplyDeleteI've been known to play a bit of mahjong solitaire from time to time...
ReplyDeleteI love Mahjong! Use to play when I was younger :D
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents seem to love this game. But I don't play it, heh. Chess is what I do. >.>
ReplyDeleteI used to play on Tenhou, but then I read about the bullshit with the RNG and paying users and stopped. Now I only play in real life. Playing in real life is a lot of fun if everyone knows what they're doing.

ReplyDeleteI love playing Mahjong, but I unfortunately suck at it something fierce.
ReplyDeleteMahjong is pretty hardcore.
ReplyDeleteThe only Mahjong I've played recently is on my psp with that saki game that was released not long ago, nice game, but over all I find Mahjong kind of boring..
